Pro Tip: Waterproof Tackle Storage

Plano Waterproof StowAways are a simple, streamlined solution to save time on the water and protect my tackle.

Utility boxes for tackle storage are supposed to be just that: utilitarian. The primary reason for using tackle storage boxes is to help keep gear and tackle secure and better organized. Plano has perfected tackle storage with the use of a standardized system.

The ultimate way to organize, protect and transport your tackle is with Plano’s StowAway® utility boxes. Four different sizes (3400, 3500, 3600 and 3700) give you the same fit every time. Plano’s tackle storage bags are also standardized with the same system to fit the Stowaway utility boxes correctly every time.

Waterproof StowAways for Dry Tackle Storage

Plano Plano has perfected tackle storage with the use of a standardized system of utility boxes and tackle bags. After dozens of fishing trips in south Louisiana enduring torrential rainfall, I decided to start using Plano’s Waterproof StowAway utility boxes for all of my tackle and gear storage needs. The Plano Waterproof StowAways use a gasket O-ring design to give protection against the elements at an affordable price. These boxes have a Dri-Loc O-ring seal on the inner lip of the lid which does an excellent job of keeping my tackle and gear dry, even in absolute downpours. After fishing a few rainy tournaments, the tackle inside of my Plano Waterproof StowAway 3700 has remained completely dry to the touch. There has been no detectable moisture whatsoever. Moisture is certainly your tackle’s worst enemy and many anglers store their boats outside often, which means gear is frequently subjected to the elements. And even when your rig is covered, condensation builds underneath and can wreak havoc on your tackle.

Besides being truly waterproof, the Plano Waterproof StowAway is well-constructed.  After that kidney-pounding ride across Lake Borgne, your terminal tackle won’t be scattered all over the inside of the StowAway. The Waterproof StowAways feature plastic fixed and customizable dividers to make sure everything has its place. This feature is similar to many other storage systems, however these dividers fit perfectly flush with the bottom of the lid when closed. This gives your terminal tackle absolutely no wiggle room. You can shake it, flip it or anything else you can think of—your stuff won’t go anywhere. It stays in the compartment where you originally put it. In the past, I have used other boxes with inserts that don’t fit tight at the bottom; especially in rough water, that’s just enough space for smaller tackle such as split rings, swivels and hooks to slide underneath and become mixed with the rest of your gear. I haven’t had this happen with the Plano Waterproof StowAways. The dividers remain intact regardless of how rough the boat ride is.

Waterproof Storage for Safety Gear and Valuables in Your Boat

3400-sized Waterproof Stowaways are perfect to keep cell phones and other valuables safe and dry.

I also use Plano Waterproof StowAways for other gear on my boat like flares and first aid kits. Most marine first aid kits come in some sort of water-repellant box, but as I learned the hard way, water-resistant and waterproof are two different things. I like to restock the entire contents of a first aid kit into a Plano Deep Bulk Storage Waterproof Stowaway. With the Dri-Loc O-ring seal and three cam-action locking latches, your first aid kit could fly overboard and still remain bone dry!

I even like to use Plano Waterproof Stowaways for sensitive gear like digital scales, and even my cell phone. I put my Galaxy 8 inside a 3400-sized Plano Waterproof StowAway and it went overboard, bobbed back up to float at the surface. I recovered it completely bone dry! Not bad for waterproof cell phone storage under $5!

When Plano standardized tackle storage, they created a simple, streamlined system that saves me time on the water and also protects my investment. If you’re looking for a practical, waterproof way to store your fishing tackle and other boat gear, I’d recommend looking into the Plano Waterproof StowAway options. They’ve been a winning solution for me.
